I: The Scarlet Marsh has blighted the eastern coast of Japrait for several generations. The invasion of the Marsh’s bizarre crimson fungus has been slow but inexorable, forcing residents to move westward every few decades lest they too disappear into the vile swamp.
II: Few choose to enter Scarlet Marsh of their own accord. A foolhardy scientist or adventurer enters the corrupted swamp every few months, though they either return hastily or not at all: poisoned by the region’s toxic fungus, slain by its colossal beetles, or worse.
III: In spite of all the dangers present, some opportunists have turned Scarlet Marsh into a source of profit. The armor of its giant beetles is thick and sturdy, and the region’s unique fungi have very potent properties—both alchemical and recreational.
IV: “Don’t go near that place. So much of this world is worth seeing—Sorag, Bluecrest Peak, the Blooming Bay—but not that place. If the beetles don’t get you and the fungus doesn’t poison you, the fumes will drive you mad. Stay out of Scarlet Marsh.” - Calli, the Muse
